Annbjørg Lien

Annbjørg Lien is one of Norway’s most outstanding and ground-breaking Hardanger fiddle players.

With a basis in Norwegian traditional music, but inspired by a spectrum of musical genres, she has created a sound of her own. Her creativity and collaboration with musicians from all over the world has made her a well-known performer of World Music as well as Norwegian folk. Annbjørg studied the Hardanger fiddle with her father and Hauk Buen from Telemark, along with classical training. Several symphony orchestras have engaged her as soloist. She is a member of the folk group Bukkene Bruse, which toured the USA, Japan, Germany and Spain in 1993 as Norway’s official Olympic musicians. Annbjørg has participated on several albums as a guest artist, such as The Chieftain’s ‘Tears of Stone’ and Loreena McKennitt’s ‘An Ancient Muse’. She is a member of the international fiddler group String Sisters.

Annbjørg holds workshops and master classes all over the world. Her encounters with her students are as intense and personal as her concerts, inspiring a vibrant and colourful journey into her musical world. Through her international status, she has proven herself as a world artist, building new and intriguing musical bridges.
