Tuva Livsdatter Syvertsen/Valkyrien Allstars

Tuva Syvertsen is one of the most prominent and original contemporary young musicians in Norway, as a member of the Norwegian group Valkyrien Allstars – one of the greatest successes in Norwegian Folk.

Along with Ola Hilmen and Erik Sollid she has developed a new sound with traditional music with a basis in Norwegian folk-tunes, dismantling tradition to create a completely iconoclastic sound. Valkyrien Allstars’ trademark is Tuva’s soulful and intense vocals, complemented by funky Hardanger fiddles, bass, drums and wild collective improvisation. As well as playing the fiddle, Tuva has also written and composed several of the songs on the ensemble’s three albums.Valkyrien Allstars formed in 2002, but all members have been playing music since they were youngsters. They were finalists in the Norwegian Broadcasting/NRKs music competition “Kjempesjansen” before being awarded the first GRAPPA price for newcomers in 2006. In 2007 they released their first album, ‘Valkyrien Allstars’, which was nominated for the Spellemannprisen (the Norwegian Grammy Award). Critically acclaimed albums followed: ‘To måner’ (2009) and ‘Ingen hverdag’ (2011), and they won the Folk Music Artist of the year award in Norway in 2009.
